About 20.12 million foreigners entered China visa-free in 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 112.3 percent, according to a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.
Overall, the number of inbound visits to China reached 131.9 million in 2024, up 60.8 percent from the previous year, according to the Statistical Communique on the 2024 National Economic and Social Development.
Of these, 26.94 million were made by foreigners, while 104.96 million were by Chinese compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
Inbound visitors to China spent a total of 94.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 77.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland recorded 145.89 million outbound visits, including 140.15 million for private purposes. Of these, 97.12 million were trips to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
