The 40th Weifang International Kite Festival kicked off Saturday in the "kite capital of the world" of east China's Shandong Province, attracting over 600 kite enthusiasts from 60 countries and regions.
The sprawling Weifang Binhai International Kite Flying Field this year saw once again kites of various shapes and sizes soar high up in the sky.
A series of kite-themed activities, including online kite-flying competition and intangible cultural heritage exhibition will take place during the event.
Weifang is the birthplace of kites and famous for its long history of kite-making and features exquisite craftsmanship. It has been home to the Weifang International Kite Festival since 1984.
The annual event will last until May 21.
