GENEVA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Mikaela Shiffrin's race to tie the record for most FIS World Cup wins slowed as Germany's Lena Duerr won a slalom race at Spindleruv Mlyn of the Czech Republic on Sunday.

Duerr finished with the second-best time in both runs to edge off the American star by 0.06 seconds.

Shiffrin finished second to stay with her 85 World Cup wins, one shy of the record set by Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden.

After breaking the women's record of 82 wins set by her compatriot Lindsey Vonn on January 24, Shiffrin won a double in her next two races to come close to the all-time mark.

She had the fastest time after the first run on Sunday, but her second run was a little too slow to tie the all-time record.

Croatia's Zrinka Ljutic, 19, finished third with 0.49 seconds off the lead pace.
