BUENOS AIRES, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Ivan Gomez struck late as Newell's Old Boys continued their perfect start to the Copa Sudamericana group stage with a 1-0 home victory over Santos on Tuesday.

Gomez prevented a dour stalemate by slotting a left-footed finish past goalkeeper Joao Paulo six minutes from time.

The result means the Argentine side now have nine points from three games, five points more than Brazil's Santos.

Paraguay's Tacuary picked up their first points of the tournament with a 3-1 home win over Bolivia's Oriente Petrolero.

In other fixtures on Tuesday, Huracan drew 1-1 at home to Danubio, Sao Paulo drew 0-0 at Deportes Tolima, Bragantino were held to a goalless home draw by Estudiantes, and Cesar Vallejo drew 2-2 at Magallanes.
