MADRID, May 31 (Xinhua) -- La Liga side Girona confirmed on Wednesday that they have extended the contract of coach Miguel Angel Sanchez 'Michel' for a further two years, until the end of June 2026.

The extension is due to the excellent work the former Rayo Vallecano and Huesca boss has carried out in his two seasons at the club, leading them to promotion from the second division last season and leading them to the verge of qualifying for Europa this campaign.

Girona stand ninth in La Liga on 49 points, with one game to play, but if they can win their last match of the season, away to seventh place Osasuna, they have a chance of qualifying for next season's Conference League.
