As the new year unfolds, the Qingdao Haixiwan Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Industry Base still gets its hand full. The bay, which shoulders the heavy responsibility of developing China’s shipbuilding and marine engineering industry for the world, accommodates more than 50 shipbuilding and marine engineering enterprises including Qingdao Haixi Heavy-Duty Machinery Co., Ltd., Qingdao Haixi Heavy-Duty Engineering Co., Ltd., Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., CSSC Engine Co., Ltd. and Offshore Oil Engineering Qingdao Co., Ltd., and is home to an industrial cluster where shipbuilding and marine engineering features, and ancillary industries and technological R&D make headway in the same pace.
Boasting comparative advantages attributable to its deep water and favorable depth, among other geographical conditions, complete industrial chains and industrial concentration, Haixiwan in Qingdao is more competitive in tapping into global markets. Prevalent new energy-powered green ship types like bulk carriers and container vessels, and such marine engineering equipment as Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO), land modular plants and offshore winder power have reached internationally advanced levels. A number of mega projects of China, including Guoxin 1, the world’s first 100,000 dwt smart aquaculture vessel, the world’s largest tonnage-class FPSO P70 and Deep Sea No. 1, the world’s first 100,000-ton deep-sea semi-submersible oil production and storage platform, were completed in Qingdao before reaching out to the globe.
