Hanfu, the historical outfit used to be worn by ethnic majority Han Chinese, is gaining popularity among young Chinese, revitalizing the traditional Chinese culture and giving tourism sector an economic boost, especially in ancient cities.
Wearing traditional costumes while visiting historical sites has become an essential travel activity for many young Chinese.
In Zhengding County of north China's Hebei Province, the enthusiasm for traditional Hanfu is becoming one of the main ways to attract visitors.
Around the trend of traditional Hanfu, various businesses have emerged, including makeup, hair styling, costume rental, and photography.
"The popularity of Warring States Robe is related to the history of the Yan and Zhao regions. Especially this attire can demonstrate a sense of historical mission. Now, many customers come from other places, some even take flights specifically to find me. I am glad to see our traditional culture being recognized by more people," said Duan Jianing, a local photographer from Hebei.
In the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) of ancient China, Hebei was called "the Land of Yan and Zhao", because its northern area was dominated by the Kingdom of Yan and its southern area by the Kingdom of Zhao. Today, that same area is home to more than 50 ethnic groups, such as Han, Hui, Manchu, Mongolian and Korean.
"I think the costumes we see now bear the historical and cultural features of our history. And they are worthy of being admired and inherited," said Zhu Na, a tourist.
Local tourism departments have also seized the opportunity to release various promotional videos featuring traditional Hanfu, attracting tourists to local historical sites.
The traditional Hanfu trend has gradually moved from a niche hobby to mainstream culture, becoming a way for many Chinese people to celebrate festivals.
