Internationally acclaimed animator Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli is set to open an immersive exhibition in Shanghai in April.
The east China metropolis is the first stop of Studio Ghibli's global immersive exhibition tour. The exhibition, themed around Miyazaki's films, will officially open on April 12 and run until October 31.
The exhibition opened to a limited audience including members of the media in late March. Inside the exhibition halls were scenarios from Miyazaki's most celebrated works such as Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky, come to life through exhibits diligently crafted by artisans recreate elements from the films.
One of the highlights of Shanghai's exhibition is a custom-made Catbus from the movie My Neighbor Totoro.
"We have artisans coming over from Japan to trim it. It's specially made for the Shanghai stop of the exhibition, so its destination reads 'Shanghai' instead," said an exhibition staff.
Visitors were eager to share their favorite Miyazaki films, and said the exhibition brought back precious memories.
"That scene of walking in the air from Howl's Moving Castle truly makes people believe in love, and not just the kids. Even adults can appreciate such pure feelings," said one visitor.
"My favorite has to be Spirited Away. In a word, I'd say you just have to hold onto some people, because once you let go you might never see them again," said another visitor.
