The first Shandong China-Europe freight train (SCO Demonstration Area-Tongjiang-Moscow), loaded with 110 TEUs containing such Qingdao-made household appliances as refrigerators and washing machines, recently departed from the multimodal transport center in the SCO Demonstration Area. The train will leave China via Tongjiang Port in Heilongjiang Province and is expected to arrive in Moscow, the capital of Russia, in 20 days, marking a new route the SCO Demonstration Area has opened up to connect ports in Russia.
Located in the northeast part of Heilongjiang Province, Tongjiang Port falls into first-class customs ports and is known as an important node of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor under the Belt and Road Initiative. After arrival at Tongjiang Port, cargoes will be directly loaded onto a train returning from overseas. In this way, the comprehensive logistics cost can be cut drastically. In the wake of the newly-opened China-Europe freight train route that leaves China via Tongjiang Port, the number of international freight train routes from the SCO Demonstration Area has risen to 22, and the routes can reach 23 cities in SCO member states and 54 cities in countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
