The Qingdao Action Plan for Accelerating Sci-tech Innovation to Build its Strength in Science and Technology (2024-2028) was recently unveiled, plotting the ways for Qingdao to pursue sci-tech innovation to drive development in the five years to come.

Accelerating efforts to drive industry innovation constitutes an important part of the Action Plan. With a focus on facilitating upgrading of competitive industries, cluster development of emerging industries, forward-looking layout of future industries and development of a superior marine economy, Qingdao will adopt four plans to give play to the strengths of the industrial supply chains, set up new chains, shore up weakness and build an international center for marine sci-tech innovation  to become a scientific and technological powerhouse with core competitiveness.

As specified in the Action Plan, by 2028, Qingdao will make rapid headway in its capacity to pool urban innovation resources, plot industry innovation, appeal to innovative workforce and commercialize scientific and technological achievements, and make an all-out effort to have the following five metrics doubled. To be specific, the number of science and technology-based enterprises will surpass 22,000, R&D spending will top RMB80 bln, the number of provincial level and above platforms for sci-tech innovation will be over 200, the turnover of technological contracts will be more than RMB120 bln, and Qingdao will be home to more than 3400 technical brokers.  (Geng Tingting)
