A series of exciting winter sports events held in northern parts of China has ignited public enthusiasm for snow sports and fueled a surge in tourism.
In Hebei Province, Chongli District, one of the competition zones of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, has become a popular destination for those seeking winter thrills.
One of the ski resorts in Chongli, Wanlong hosted the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing Points Race on Dec 3-6, with tourists there being captivated by athletes racing down the 1,000-meter-long slope at a speed approaching 100 kilometers per hour.
"The feeling of watching live sports is so different," said Xie, a tourist from neighboring city Beijing.
"There are good races, you know, good condition, good slope, good snow," said a coach from Italy.
The FIS Freeski and Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup which is underway in Genting Snow Park has further fueled winter sports enthusiasm. It has drawn 152 athletes from 16 countries, including Ailing Gu who won the women's final of freeski halfpipe event on Saturday.
The Genting's daily visitor count, which already reached 7,000 before the competition, has now climbed above 10,000.
"I hope the athletes can get good results. Way to go," said an enthusiast from Shanghai.
In addition, ski resorts across Hebei have opened extra-long slopes for visitors to have more fun on snow.
Meanwhile, in Liaoning Province, the Gongchangling Ski Resort saw a surge in visitors on Saturday, welcoming nearly 1,000 snow sports enthusiasts and tourists in the first four hours of its opening.
As one of the earliest established ski resorts in Liaoning, Gongchangling serves as a training base for the national teams of alpine skiing and snowboard parallel giant slalom.
This year, it officially opened to the public for the snow season on Friday.
