More than 1.9 billion parcels were handled across China during the eight-day Spring Festival holiday that ended on Tuesday, the State Post Bureau said on Wednesday.
Among that, more than 782 million parcels were delivered, representing a 26.7-percent increase compared with last year while over 1.145 billion parcels were collected, with the volume increasing by 31 percent compared with that of last year, according to the bureau.
The average parcel collection and delivery volume reached nearly 250 million pieces per day, even though the Spring Festival holiday is typically an off-season for the annual express delivery business, during which many services temporarily halt operations.
The delivery of New Year's goods remains the main source of growth for the express delivery business, as mutual sending of holiday goods has become a new way for people to celebrate the Spring Festival.
With the end of the Spring Festival holiday on Tuesday, China's major domestic express delivery companies are gradually returning to normal operations.
It is expected that the delivery business will see another growth at Lantern Festival, which is just a week away.
Since Jan 14, the first day of the Spring Festival travel rush, China's national postal express industry has collected and delivered 16.681 billion parcels.
The Spring Festival is the biggest annual holiday for the Chinese, when people across the country return to their hometowns for celebrations and family reunion. This year's Spring Festival holiday lasts from Jan 28 to Feb 4.
The travel rush during the festival is China's biggest annual human migration. The 2025 Spring Festival travel rush will last until Feb 22, totaling 40 days.
