A group of sculptures featuring China's animated blockbuster "Ne Zha 2" has drawn crowds following its box office success in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
"Ne Zha 2" -- a sequel to the series about a rebellious boy-god from Chinese mythology -- now ranks the 7th on the all-time global box office chart. As of Saturday afternoon, its global earnings, including presales, had exceeded 14.2 billion yuan (about 1.98 billion U.S. dollars), according to data from ticketing platform Maoyan.
Located on a pedestrian street in Chengdu's Gaoxin District, the sculptures have attracted visitors from near and far. They were seen posing for photos with the beloved mythological figures.
"We're from Malaysia and came here to take photos with the Ne Zha statues after a trip to Chongqing. The storyline of 'Ne Zha 2' is really fantastic and truly captivating. We'll take our children to watch the movie again when we get back," said a tourist.
"I happened to be traveling in Chengdu and learned of the sculptures worth a visit. So I'm here and have taken a photo with Ne Zha. They looked really good," said another tourist.
"I'm from Sichuan's Ya'an City. I came specifically to see the sculptures. I think the film's success lies in its deep exploration of Chinese culture. The combination of traditional Chinese culture and modern animation techniques beautifully showcases Chinese aesthetics," said a visitor from a neighboring city.
