Guangdong has seen a surging number of visitors from Hong Kong and Macao during the Qingming Festival holiday, who came for local leisure and cultural activities.
With the convenience of Northbound Travel policies for Hong Kong and Macao vehicles, residents from the two regions have flocked to the nearby Guangdong Province in south China during the three-day Qingming holiday that started from Friday.
Zhuhai City of Guangdong, linking the two regions with the famous Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, is among the most visited places for Hong Kong and Macao residents. A local hotel reported an 80-percent occupancy rate during the holiday, with most of the guests coming from Hong Kong or Macao.
"I am bringing my kid here to engage in some family activities. It seems there is a snow and ice world park here, and also an amusement park, both of which are places for kids to play and for people to get relaxed," said Mr. Yang from Hong Kong.
Beyond city attractions, tours to the countryside and villages around Zhuhai are also popular. With excursions offering farming experiences, scenic views, and cultural activities, travelers from Hong Kong eagerly get engaged in traditional Chinese medicine treatments and tea making.
"I know that there are traditional cultural activities here, like pulse diagnoses by traditional Chinese medicine doctors, tea picking and mountain hiking. I am here to get relaxed," said another Hong Kong traveler surnamed Liao.
The Qingming Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday for honoring ancestors, is also now a short break for residents to engage in outdoor activities or go sightseeing. This year, the festival fell on Friday.
