LONGNAN -- Infrared cameras have recently captured footages of wild cute giant pandas strolling in snow-capped forest in the Baishuijiang area of the Giant Panda National Park in Longnan City, northwest China’s Gansu Province.
Covering about 2,600 square kilometers, the area is rich in rare and endangered species, represented by the giant panda.
In efforts to better protect pandas in the wild, staff members of the area have installed many infrared cameras to monitor their conditions. When sorting and classifying the footages captured in February, the staff members found many pieces showing wild pandas leisurely strolling in the snow.
In the video captured by infrared cameras, several individuals were strolling in snow-covered forest, while sniffing around.
According to the park staff, wild pandas were recently monitored to have activities down the mountains, which may be related to their coming estrus period.
Each year from March to May is the estrus period of wild pandas, when they usually leave their territory and signal their courtship by making scent posts.
