A large-scale copper artwork jointly created by Yunnan College of Business Management and two craft companies in southwest China's Yunnan Province was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's longest variegated copper bas-relief on July 10.
Measuring approximately 32 meters in length, the bas-relief was crafted over 166 days by a team of 68 artisans using the nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage technique of "variegated copper craftsmanship."
The work replicated the famous Chinese handscroll painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by the renowned artist Zhang Zeduan from the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
It brought to life, in three-dimensional form, the bustling streets, riverside commerce, and vibrant daily scenes of the ancient capital, Bianjing -- present-day Kaifeng in central China's Henan Province.
Variegated copper bas-relief is a traditional metalwork art form native to Yunnan. It derives its name from the distinctive metallic crystalline patterns that gleam in golden hues against a red, orange, or brown backdrop.
