China's summer box office has surged to 7.5 billion yuan (about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars) in cumulative revenues as of early August, including pre-sales, according to Beacon Pro, an Alibaba-backed film data platform.
The season has now posted average daily grosses above 100 million yuan (about 14.80 million U.S. dollars) for 24 consecutive days.
More than 120 titles have hit theaters, spanning historical epics, comedies, action flicks, animations, and sci-fi blockbusters. That diverse lineup points to one clear trend: supply is booming, and audiences are hungry for more.
