Celebrated directors and stars of Chinese cinema gathered in east China for Weibo Film Night 2023 on June 10 to honor the country's outstanding filmmakers and productions.
The ceremony was held in Kunshan City of Jiangsu Province by the leading Chinese microblog platform Weibo and China Movie Channel. Hundreds of filmmakers, movie stars, producers, critics, and other guests attended the event.
Well-known Chinese director Chen Kaige received an Outstanding Contribution Award, while others including actor Shen Teng, actress Zhang Ziyi, director Guo Fan, as well as actor and director Wu Jing were recognized as Influential Filmmakers.
The event also became a stage for filmmakers to promote their latest productions. Two new films awaiting release this year, "Meg 2: The Trench" and "Salvation", received Special Recommendations.
The science fiction action-horror movie "Meg 2: The Trench" is the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster "The Meg", and is scheduled to be released in the United States in August 2023.
The gambling drama "Salvation" stars world-renown actors and actresses including Chow Yun-Fat and Anita Yuen.
"This film is full of laughter, love and energy. I hope that everyone will enjoy this film," said Chow at the ceremony.
"Everyone can be assured that we made this film with great fun and care," said Yuen.
Another highlight of the ceremony was the release of stills from the much-anticipated film "The Great War".
Directed by Chen Kaige, the film tells a story from the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea and will be released in October this year.
