China's box office revenue for the summer moviegoing period that began on June 1 has surpassed 7.3 billion yuan, according to the latest data from the China Film Administration.
A cinema in Beijing is packed with a diversified option of movies, ranging from drama, comedy to homegrown cartoons.
"This summer our box office is increasing at a much faster speed compared to previous years. Recently our daily box office has stayed above 160,000 yuan (about 22,265 U.S. dollars), a figure higher than that of 2019, which was about 130,000 yuan (about 18,090 U.S. dollars)," said Li Huyu, manager of the cinema.
Leading the box office is the mystery murder drama "Lost in the Stars", which has so far reaped 3.1 billion yuan (about 431.39 million U.S. dollars), followed by "Never Say Never" or "Octagonal", a movie featuring a boxing champion's philanthropic doings. Currently cinemas across China are expecting better performance with "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" and cartoon "Oh My School" to hit the big screen on Friday.
