Hustle and bustle have returned to streets across China as the Spring Festival comes around the corner, with many catering businesses taking various measures to stimulate consumption.
Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei in central China, which was seriously hit by the epidemic in 2020, has seen busy traffic again and diners consuming steaming meals in restaurants.
On the Shuita Street, an old gourmet spot in Wuhan, many businesses closed their doors due to the serious epidemic situation in December. But now, the busy street has come back to life.
"Our business is picking up gradually. Conservatively speaking, we can sell more than 1,000 grilled chicken legs a day," said Xu Defu, a merchant on the street.
In Changsha, the provincial capital of Hunan in central China, also a city famous for various specialty food, eatery outlet owners have launched consumption festivals and offered special discounts to promote consumption.
In a consumption festival launched on Dec 23, Changsha has issued 80,000 food and beverage vouchers through online platforms to attract more diners.
Measures have proved working well as customer attendance rate of popular restaurants in the city has rebounded to more than 90 percent.
Foshan in south China's Guangdong Province, just as other cities across the country, has seen the Chinese New Year's Eve dinners, also known as "reunion dinners," become a hot commodity recently.
A restaurant in Foshan has been flooded with calls to make reservations for the reunion dinners. People usually book the reunion dinners two weeks or even one month ahead of the Chinese New Year's Eve, which falls on Jan 21 this year.
"The reunion dinners have almost sold out. Approximately 90 percent of the dinner tables on the New Year’s Eve have been booked," said Zhang Jie, manager of the restaurant.
In Shaoxing of east China's Zhejiang Province, many restaurants offer delivery service to those who booked their reunion dinners.
Data show that in the past week, the food and beverage merchants offering reunion dinners on online platforms increased by 107 percent week on week, and the orders for reunion dinners increased by 210 percent.
