As of Monday, the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, bordering Hong Kong, has recorded over 100 million border crossings this year, a milestone being set 24 days earlier than in 2024, according to statistics from the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection.
The city's border inspection station processes a daily average of approximately 730,000 people entering or leaving the mainland through this checkpoint, with a peak daily volume of 1.04 million passengers.
The number of foreign nationals entering China via Shenzhen's ports has seen a sharp increase compared with the same period last year, following the optimization and upgrading of measures including the 240-hour visa-free transit policy and unilateral visa exemptions.
Data also shows that by Monday, the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection had inspected a total of 2.64 million foreign nationals, a 41 percent rise year-on-year, with 560,000 foreign nationals entering visa-free, marking a 105 percent year-on-year growth.
"The time period when the number of inbound and outbound passengers exceeded 100 million this year was 24 days earlier than in 2024, which reflects the accelerated integration and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The new immigration management policies are being quickly implemented, offering convenience and benefits to passengers," said Du Hai, a police officer at the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection.
Du said the city's border inspection station will continue to deepen the reform of simplifying customs clearance to better facilitate the flow of people and goods and enhance people-to-people connectivity.
