Kengkou Lettuce Market is back again!
#TheGreatBeautyofGuangdong Lettuce is called Shengcai in Cantonese, meaning bringing wealth. The Kengkou Lettuce Market is a folk traditional event held by residents of Kengkou Village, Chongkou Street, Liwan District, Guangzhou.
The event, which has been around for more than 300 years, is always held on the 26th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar every year. On that day, people flock to the Lettuce Market to get Shengcai Bao (lettuce dumplings) and pray for wealth and good luck in the new year.
On February 15, on the eve of this year's event, the stalls selling pinwheels and handicrafts were abuzz with visitors, and lettuce dumplings were ready for sale as well. The bustling Lettuce Market returned after three years of absence!

生菜的粤语谐音为“生财”。拥有300多年历史的坑口生菜会,是广州市荔湾区冲口街坑口村村民开展的一种民间民俗传统活动,每逢农历正月廿六举行。当天,众多市民会到坑口逛生菜会、取“生菜包”,祈求来年“生财”、顺风顺水。2月15日,在坑口生菜会正式启动前一晚,记者提前探营走访,可见售卖风车、工艺品的摊位人气火热,“生菜包”也已准备就绪,热闹的生菜会阔别三年后重新归来!
