Century-Old Intangible Heritage Lives on as Ten Villages Unite for Guandi Parade in Guangzhou’s Panyu District

Art and Culture | Horses gallop as drums and gongs thunder through the streets. On February 26, the 10th day of the first lunar month, the Guandi Parade, jointly organized by ten villages, kicked off in Panyu District, Guangzhou. Winding through the old lanes of Donghuan, Shiqiao, and Nancun, soaring lions and swirling dragons moved through cheering crowds to the pulse of traditional music. As a century-old intangible cultural heritage event, the Guandi Parade unfolded amid the eager anticipation of locals from Longmei, Dongsha, Lantang, and other villages. Dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, it began as a shared ritual, and now has grown into an enduring bond between communities—kept alive by the people who proudly call these villages home.

赤马驰骋，锣鼓喧天。农历正月初十（2月26日），广州市番禺区关帝十乡会巡游活动如期举行，东环、市桥、南村等镇街的巷陌间醒狮腾跃、彩龙翻滚，八音锣鼓声交织着村民的欢呼声，一场承载着百年记忆的非遗盛宴，在十乡乡亲的期盼中拉开帷幕。作为番禺区级非物质文化遗产，关帝十乡会串联起龙美、东沙、榄塘等十个村落的情谊，从明清时期延续至今，这份跨越数百年的约定，在代代村民的坚守与传承中焕发新生。
