The First Wild Lotus Discovery at the Greater Bay Area Central Wetland Park!

City Life | A major ecological discovery has been made at the Greater Bay Area Central Wetland Park (Nansha Wetland) in Guangzhou. Following an expert identification by Tian Daike, head of the International Cultivar Registration Authority for Lotus, a researcher at the Chenshan Science Research Center under the CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Science, and a researcher at the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, an extensive stand of lotus in the wetland's core migratory bird foraging area has been confirmed as Guangdong's first recorded native wild lotus population. The discovery also marks China’s first recorded subtropical wild lotus population, filling a significant gap in the country's distribution records. The species is listed as a national second-class protected wild plant. #citylife

近日，广州大湾区中央湿地公园（南沙湿地）传来重大生态科研喜讯：经中国科学院分子植物科学卓越创新中心辰山科学研究中心，上海辰山国家植物园研究员、国际荷花品种登录负责人田代科权威鉴定，湿地候鸟核心觅食区内的连片莲群是广东首次发现的原生野生莲种群，也是在中国首次发现的亚热带型野生莲种群，属国家二级保护野生植物，填补了广东乃至中国亚热带型野生莲的分布记录空白。
