Guangdong’s National Day Box Office Leads Nationwide, Boosting Film-Related Tourism

City Life | As of 9 p.m. on October 7, Guangdong’s box office revenue for the National Day holiday had exceeded 142 million yuan, ranking first nationwide. A total of 15.6 million yuan in cinema subsidies has also been allocated to encourage moviegoing and stimulate related consumer spending. Films produced in Guangdong also performed strongly during the holiday. The comedy Mr. & Mrs. Pardon and the crime-action film Go for Broke 2 were among the notable releases. In 2026, eight Guangdong-produced films have each grossed more than 100 million yuan. Cities including Guangzhou and Jiangmen are also exploring ways to connect cinema with tourism. Through ticket-based promotions, moviegoers can access offers on dining, accommodation and local attractions, encouraging spending beyond the cinema.The cinema subsidy programme will continue until November 20.#citylife
