The national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network has ensured efficient and smooth passenger flow, logistics and the flow of information across China.

In 2023, China's transport sector recovered steadily, serving more than 60 billion trans-regional passenger trips throughout the year. The country's cargo transport volume also registered a stable growth.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in southwest China's Sichuan Province was put into operation in 2021. Located some 50 km from downtown Chengdu, the Tianfu airport is the largest civil transport airport built during China's 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020) and the second international airport in the provincial capital, Chengdu.

The airport witnessed more than 44 million passenger trips last year, making it one of the busiest airports in the world.

"We received a lot more passengers in 2023.The terminals were bustling with passengers," said Yang Yi, a staff member with China's Sichuan Airlines.

The airport is integrated into the city through multiple means of transportation facilities.

Design of the airport also includes various types of ground transport systems such as high-speed trains, metros, buses and taxis.

"Various types of ground transport systems such as metros, buses and taxis have been introduced to connect the airport with other parts of the city, which allows passengers to make convenient and efficient transfers among different means of transportation," said Li Gang, manager of terminal management center with Tianfu International Airport.

"The railway system access rate at the country's hub airports was more than 73 percent last year, and 72 airports realized terminal-railway interconnection," said Yao Jinjin, researcher of the China Academy of Civil Aviation Science and Technology.

By the end of 2022, the country's completion rate of mega project to build a modern, high-quality and comprehensive national transport network was approximately 79 percent, with a combined scale of over six million kilometers.

The country had 254 civil transport airports by the end of 2022.
