As the Spring Festival approaches, the volume of fruits and vegetables exported through the Horgos Port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has reached the year's first peak.
Since New Year's Day, more than 10,000 tons of fruits and vegetables have been exported through the Khorgos Port, more than fivefold that of the same period last year.
At the world's largest dry port and the primary fruit and vegetable export base in Khorgos, more than 1,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables from Xinjiang as well as provinces such as Shandong and Sichuan are loaded onto trucks each day. They are then shipped out of the country to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and elsewhere.
Ilyas Kailbayev runs a logistics company in Kazakhstan. He travels between China and Kazakhstan all year round for fruit and vegetable trading and logistics transportation. He said the booming business not only brings good profits, but is also a prime demonstration of the development dividends brought by the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
"Chinese goods and food are popular in Almaty, Kazakhstan, because the quality of Chinese fruits and vegetables is good, which is very necessary for us in Kazakhstan. We are very satisfied and happy with the products purchased from China," said Kailbayev.
In order to further reduce the time and cost of customs clearance of goods, Khorgos Port has opened a green channel for rapid customs clearance of agricultural and sideline products between China and Kazakhstan.
The port also continuously optimizes the customs clearance process of goods, and strengthens the coordination of joint inspection units such as customs and border inspection to improve customs clearance efficiency.
"By strengthening contact with export enterprises, we have set up special windows, special channels, special signs and other convenient customs clearance measures for fruits and vegetables to shorten the time for the inspection and release procedures. We have implemented procedures to handle fruits and vegetables as soon as they arrive and release them immediately upon inspection," said a staff member of the Khorgos Customs supervision section.
