China's domestic air passenger traffic has basically recovered to the 2019 level, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) told a meeting on Tuesday.
From Jan. 1 to June 14 this year, the civil aviation sector handled 2.368 million flights and 260 million passenger trips, equal to 89.0 percent and 87.8 percent of the pre-pandemic levels, respectively, the CAAC said at the 2023 meeting on flight safety in Zhuhai City, south China's Guangdong Province.
Domestic air passenger traffic has been recovering at a faster space. The average daily passenger flights stood at 12,000, 104.3 percent of the volume in same period of 2019. An average of 1.484 million passengers were transported on a daily basis, returning to 95.8 percent of the 2019 level, said the administration.
Ticket reservations for the coming summer travel season show air passenger volume is expected to see a significant increase from 2019.
Authorities say the domestic civil aviation market has enough capacity to meet air travel demands.
