Fuzhou-made ultra-large ocean engineering vessel, the world’s first, is delivered 2025/5/30 source: International Daily Print

On May 21, the ocean engineering vessel WINDPIPER, made by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Mawei Shipbuilding) for Royal Boskalis Westminster B.V. in the Netherlands, was successfully delivered.

With a total length of 227 meters, a molded width of 40 meters, a molded depth of 18.2 meters and a displacement of 13.2 meters, it is the worlds first ultra-large ocean engineering vessel with a cargo capacity of over 45,000 tons, and is able to wither severe sea conditions to operate in a safe and targeted manners on sites. The vessel is compliant with the highest international standards on safety and environmental protection, and therefore a role model for the application of green shipbuilding technology.

According to technical staff, following the delivery, the vessel will continue to experience upgrades in its stone dumping system before becoming the worlds largest stone dumper. Thanks to its exceptionally spacious cargo hold, the vessel can effectively transport rocks to remote sea areas such as the east coast of North America, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea in a single voyage, thus slashing operation frequencies and carbon emissions.  (Zheng Ruiyang)
