On February 14, the 2022 “Touching Qingdao” moral models were unveiled, including ten individuals and 2 groups. Despite having ordinary jobs, these models have warmed the city with their warm deeds and offered the city the power of endless civilization.

Despite the defects of her left lower limb because of poliomyelitis she was infected with at her childhood, Yu Jing, a girl from Qingdao and the only female athlete in the China winter Paralympic ice hockey team, has unceasingly worked to make herself stronger and eventually clinched a bronze medal with her teammates in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games; Liu Shiyu, a captain aged 55, rescued seven sailors amid huge waves regardless of his own safety after receiving the help signal from a fishing boat in distress; Liu Junhong, an industry and commerce law enforcement staff who died of liver cancer at the age of 51, returned to work less than two weeks after operation, led law enforcement supervision and business risk screening and showed dedication in his short life. Liang Jianying, committed to  R&D of high-speed train technology, has led her team to make technological breakthroughs one after another. The CRH380A motor train unit developed by her team has chalked up the world record of the fastest speed for train trial at 486.1 km/h, helping Chinese high-speed trains lead the world.

The deep-sea extreme environment and life process research team, affiliated to the Qingdao-based Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has depended on the mega-science gadget named “Science” to relocate the labs at the sea bottom, developed the world’s first multi-channel Raman insertion probes system, detected for the first time “combustible ice” exposed at the sea bottom, discovered for the first time hypercritical carbon dioxide in nature and made “China’s voice” better heard from the deep sea. The charity organization of Qingdao Zhenqing Bus Group has attracted 1,460 members to set up 21 voluntary service teams which has long engaged in social-benefit activities including succoring the poor and delivering those in distress and danger, voluntary blood donation and environmental protection, and helped minor girls and the elderly of no family in need.

Since the beginning of 2004, Qingdao has selected “Touching Qingdao” moral models from all walks of life for 19 consecutive years, and presented their good deeds via TV broadcasting and cyber livestreaming with photos and texts. To date, Qingdao has cumulatively picked out 218 moral models (including 32 groups), whose commonplace kind deeds have remarkably touched the public to enable the spiritual strength to travel through time and space and epitomize the era.  (Yang Qiqi)
