Qingdao Today
A China-Europe freight train fully loaded with 41 TEUs of wheatmeal from Kazakhstan recently arrived at the multimodal transport center in the SCO Demonstration Area (SCODA). This shipment of wheatmeal will be later transported to feedstuff processing enterprises nearby Qingdao. Last year, a total of 138,000 tons of agricultural products from Kazakhstan, the largest grain exporter in Central Asia, were transported by China-Europe freight trains to the SCODA, representing more than 10% of the total agricultural products exported from the country to China.
The SCODA works hard to put up platforms and open up channels to facilitate the circulation of agricultural products between SCO member states. An enormous amount of agricultural products from other SCO member states are making faster inroads into the Chinese market. The SCODA last year launched a series of programs for boosting trading of varied agricultural products from Russia, Belarus and Pakistan. With these efforts, Qingdao has become an important channel for other SCO member states to export agricultural products to China.
In addition to making logistics and settlement unimpeded, the SCODA leverages platforms and events such as the “Silk Road E-commerce” comprehensive service base, the SCO International Green Agricultural Products Expo and Trading Center and the SCO Expo to showcase featured agricultural products from SCO member states, and enhance the popularity and reputation of such products.
