The 2025 ILCA6 Women's World Championships and the 2025 ILCA7 Men's World Championships wrapped up in Qingdao, Shandong province, on May 17, after days of thrilling competition among 237 elite sailors from 49 countries and regions - including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and China.
Against the backdrop of the iconic Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, the athletes demonstrated their unmatched speed, precision, and resilience.
As one of the world's top single-handed dinghy events, the championships showcased Qingdao's international sailing credentials. The closing ceremony featured a vibrant review of the competition's highlights and honored the top 10 finishers in both categories.
France's Louise Cervera clinched the women's ILCA6 title, followed by Agata Barwinska of Poland and Eve McMahon of Ireland. In the men's ILCA7 event, Willem Wiersema of the Netherlands took gold, with Cyprus' Pavlos Kontides and Australia's Zac Littlewood earning silver and bronze, respectively.
International and national sailing officials, along with local government leaders, praised the athletes' efforts and the organizing team's professionalism. The ILCA class association commended the warm hospitality and smooth coordination by Qingdao's hosts and volunteers, noting the inclusive and sportsmanlike spirit of the event.
In addition to the races, the championships lit up Qingdao's waterfront with a bustling "sailing market" that featured sports gear, local cuisine, and cultural products — enhancing the city's appeal as a destination for both competition and leisure.
