Qingdao Today
Adora Mediterranea, a luxury cruise ship operated by Adora Cruises, docked at the Qingdao international cruise home port carrying more than 2,000 passengers on May 14, marking its first summer voyage of the year. This marks the vessel's third year in a row operating in Qingdao, Shandong province, and signals a revival of the city's cruise tourism market.
The ship is set to make three voyages with nearly 8,000 passengers in total this summer. That same day, the New Golden Bridge V passenger liner also berthed at the port, demonstrating the growing efficiency of Qingdao's modern 60,000-square-meter terminal. Thanks to smart clearance systems and coordinated customs operations, dual-ship docking now offers 15-percent faster processing speeds.
This year, Qingdao is expected to host over 30 cruise voyages, including a record nine port-of-call visits. The first domestically built large cruise ship, the Adora Magic City, selected Qingdao as the first stop on its China coastal tour, with two successful international voyages in April alone, setting a new single-day passenger processing record of 11,000.
More cruise activity is on the horizon: Shanghai-based Blue Dream Melody will offer eight voyages in July and August, while Adora Mediterranea will return for three more in September. The domestically flagged Zhao Shang Yi Dun will make eight visits between August and November.
Meanwhile, Qingdao's cruise port is evolving into a futuristic urban hub. Major developments such as the Eye of the World complex — slated to open this year— are redefining Qingdao as a premium destination, blending tourism, commerce, and cutting-edge design to strengthen northern China's cruise economy.
