Qingdao has been named a coastal summer retreat destination on the 2026 national map of summer climate resources released by the China Meteorological Administration.

The announcement came at the launch of a nationwide summer culture and tourism consumption campaign organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on July 8. The selection reflects Qingdao's mild maritime climate, with an annual average temperature of 13.3 C and a summer average of 23.7 C.

Qingdao's tourism offerings combine coastal scenery, forests, hot springs, and wetlands. Badaguan, known for more than 300 villas featuring architectural styles from over 20 countries, offers shaded streets and easy access to the old city's beaches.

Laoshan Mountain, a national 5A-level tourist attraction, has an average summer temperature of 24.7 C and forest coverage of 88.11 percent. The China Meteorological Administration has also recognized it as a "China Natural Oxygen Bar."

In Jimo district, visitors can experience one of the world's four major bromide-rich seawater hot springs. The water contains more than 30 minerals and can reach 93 C.

Other options include Qingdao's 36.9-kilometer coastal walkway from Tuandao to Shilaoren Beach, the forests of Dazhu and Xiaozhu mountains, and the wetlands around the Dagu River and Tangdao Bay. These areas offer opportunities for walking, cycling, birdwatching, and wellness-focused stays.
