INTERNATIONAL freight at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has increased by 50% over the past three years, ranking it third in China for three consecutive years in terms of cargo throughput, according to data from the recently held 3rd Aviation Logistics Forum in the city.

The airport’s cross-border e-commerce services gained a lot of attention at the forum, which attracted more than 300 experts from the global aviation logistics industry and insiders from the civil aviation sector.

So far, Shenzhen’s airport has opened more than 60 domestic and international cargo routes that cover major global air cargo hubs such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Liege, and Budapest.

In the first quarter this year, a total of nine international cargo routes were launched or had their frequencies increased in order to meet the demands of cross-border e-commerce.

The airport’s cargo throughput increased 21.3% year on year from January to March and air transport cross-border e-commerce business volume doubled, data show.

In recent years, products from Shenzhen-based firms have gained global recognition through cross-border e-commerce.

Customs data show that Shenzhen’s cross-border e-commerce imports and exports exceeded 110 billion yuan (US$15.18 billion) in the first quarter this year, an increase of 95% compared with the same period last year.
