THE Shenzhong Link, which is scheduled to open at the end of this month, is expected to handle more than 80,000 vehicles a day, according to an estimate released by the Shenzhen transport bureau during a seminar yesterday.

After the opening of the Shenzhong Link, the bureau will collaborate with cities on the western side of the Pearl River Estuary to plan the layout of the low-altitude economy and create more uses for drone-based flights and logistics services.

In addition, the bureau will develop cross-city transport services and explore cross-region air cab services. Shenzhen will also co-develop tourism routes, including marine routes, with cities on the western side of the Pearl River Estuary.

Shenzhen has already started landscaping and connecting road and pipe lines in the regions connected by the Shenzhong Link and tapping the tourism resources of the Pearl River Estuary. In terms of landscaping, Shenzhen is planning the construction of sightseeing corridors, ecological ways, and hiking trails along the estuary.

Based on the toll fee schedule, the cost of traveling on the Shenzhong Link from the Xixiang North Tollgate in Bao’an District to the Cuiheng East Tollgate in Zhongshan is 68 yuan (US$9.36) for those using cash. Those who use the Guangdong e-service card will receive a 5% discount and pay 64.6 yuan.

In another development, the traffic police in Zhongshan and Shenzhen have banned vehicles transporting hazardous materials from using the Shenzhong Link.

Items banned under the new policy include explosives, flammable substances, toxic materials, infectious substances, corrosive substances, and radioactive materials.

The police authority in Zhongshan has also released an announcement prohibiting the entry of vehicles transporting hazardous materials into the Zhongshan section of the Shenzhong Link.
