Chinese air companies have resumed a number of direct flights between domestic and American cities as China's civil aviation sector maintains the recovery momentum and the two countries seek to enhance people-to-people exchanges.
These include Air China's flight CA817 traveling from Beijing to Washington D.C.
The CA817 aircraft departing Tuesday from the Beijing Capital International Airport will operate twice a week, with the return leg making a stopover in Los Angeles. Passengers said it will slash their travel time by nearly half.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, during the 2023/2024 winter and spring, the number of regular passenger flights between China and the U.S. is expected to increase from 48 per week to 70.
The new schedules will provide greater convenience for travellers and facilitate economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
Hainan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines are both planning to resume more direct flights between the two countries.
Hainan Airlines plans to resume its Beijing-Boston-Seattle-Beijing air route after a 45-month hiatus, and three flights will be operated per week starting from Sunday.
"We began selling tickets for the direct flight starting on November 9th. Over 3,500 tickets have been sold in a matter of just one week, averaging a daily sales volume of 500 tickets," said Luo Jun, chief of the Party committee at Hainan Airlines Beijing Base.
