The China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) is set to promote fruits from ASEAN countries, and stimulate already increasing trade in fruits between the two sides.
Wei Zhaohui, Secretary-General of the CAEXPO Secretariat, introduced the plans to focus on fruits from Vietnam and other ASEAN nations, with a strategic approach encompassing three key areas.
"Fruits were the first commodities to enjoy tariff reductions in the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. The Youyiguan Port in Guangxi has emerged as China's primary land port for importing fruits from Southeast Asia. Moving forward, we plan to intensify the promotion efforts for fruits from Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, with a focus on three key areas in order to stimulate more trade, and enlarge and enrich the China-ASEAN 'fruit basket' to meet the growing aspirations of the people for a better life. First, we're going to expand the scale of exhibition. For the 2024 CAEXPO, we will add 20,000 square meters to the exhibition space to be used specially for showcasing characteristic farm produce and deep processed products. Second, we'll enhance efforts in promotion and encourage the China-ASEAN Fruit Trading center to organize various business activities such as information sharing for fruits suppliers and purchasers as well as fruit-themed events such as the Durian Festival to boost trade in fruits between China and AESAN countries. Third, we're going to launch more regular exhibitions," said Wei.
