Study trips, where students travel to new cities for extracurricular activities and learning, are gaining in popularity across China this winter.
A group of 13 primary school students from Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province has just started a five-day field trip to Dunhuang, in northwest China's Gansu Province.
During their visit to the renowned Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they learned about its significant historical and artistic value and participated in activities such as the simulated restoration of ancient murals.
"I'm revisiting Dunhuang for the second time, and my fondness for this place has remained constant since my first visit. It has lingered in my thoughts ever since," said one of the pupils.
The group also visited the Dunhuang Optoelectronics Expo Park, where the young students gained insights into innovative developments in the new energy sector. They had the opportunity to create solar-powered toy cars and drive solar-powered go-karts.
"We also took students on a visit to a renewable energy power plant, allowing children to feel the excitement of super projects and understand the current status of new energy development in the motherland," said Li Jia, a tour guide at the expo park.
Elsewhere, nine preschool children, bundled up in bright orange down coats, have embarked on a camping trip to the Huzhong District in the mountains of the Greater Khingan Range, in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, a region renowned for its breathtaking beauty in the winter months.
The children, who come from south China's Guangdong Province, got up close with a herd of reindeers and enjoyed playing in the snow during their travels.
They also explored the Huzhong Nature Reserve and its extensive display of animal and plant specimens, giving them a new appreciation of the natural world.
