QINGDAO -- Qingdao actively promoted energy-saving renovation of existing buildings so as to provide a comfortable living environment for people.
Last October, the residential area of Liu Weijing, a resident living in Qingdao City, east China's Shandong Province, saw the completion of renovation for saving energy, with roofs of the buildings being repaired and the outer walls reinforced with insulation materials.
"Now it (indoor temperature) can reach 20 degrees Celsius, saving expenses on electricity. The renovation was all funded by the government, which improved our living environment. We are very happy," said Liu.
Qingdao is one of the fifth batch of pilot cities for clean heating in northern China. In 2023 alone, 6.71 million square meters of the city's existing residential buildings underwent energy-saving renovation, and 200,000 rural households had access to clean heating after their houses were renovated.
In the past five years, the central government's funding policy in support of pilot clean heating transformation in the northern region has expanded to cover more than 80 cities.
