The summer box office in China topped 4.5 billion yuan, or about 619.75 million U.S. dollars, as of 15:00 on Tuesday.
The figure includes current screenings and pre-sale tickets for movies spanning the period from June to August.
The top three blockbusters so far are crime thriller A Place Called Silence, comedy film Successor, and domestic drama Moments We Shared.
At present, about 100 films are scheduled to hit the screen during this summer vocation, featuring diversified genres ranging from comedy, crime thriller, to cartoon to appeal to viewers of different age groups.
Among the cartoon movies are domestic animation films White Snake III, Into The Mortal World and The Umbrella Fairy, with the latter two blending traditional Chinese artistic elements.
To attract more viewers, cinemas nationwide are encouraged to diversify their operations, explore additional services, and offer vouchers to audience.
More than 230 new films have been screened in China this year.
The number of screens in the country has continued to grow, with a net increase of 2,203 as of the end of June, reaching a total of 88,513, the world's first.
