QINGDAO, China – As the national spotlight turns toward the integration of cinema and commerce, Qingdao has been officially designated as one of 16 pilot cities for China’s new "film-plus" consumption initiative. The program aims to transform movie-going from a standalone activity into a powerful engine for broader economic and social development.
The national pilot program focuses on three core pillars:
Cultivating Growth: Driving record-breaking film attendance.
Upgrading Models: Modernizing the cinema-going experience.
Expanding Markets: Diversifying the film derivatives and retail sectors.
Already globally recognized for the Oriental Movie Metropolis—the production home of blockbusters like The Wandering Earth and Creation of the Gods—Qingdao is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative. By leveraging its world-class production facilities, the city has successfully turned film sets into "must-visit" cultural landmarks, sparking a surge in local tourism.
To coincide with the Spring Festival, which commenced on February 17, Qingdao has launched an aggressive promotional campaign designed to turn "silver screen" interest into "main street" spending.
In a move to integrate the film industry with the local service sector, Qingdao authorities have introduced a digital incentive program that rewards movie-goers with tangible benefits across the city.
