As the 139th Canton Fair gets underway, Canton Tower has launched a "Future Concert" series, blending technology with the arts. On Wednesday, humanoid robots performed alongside human musicians, offering visitors and international buyers a high-tech audiovisual experience.
During the performance, two stringed instrument artists played the violin, while humanoid robots played electronic keyboards. The ensemble performed classics such as "Horse Racing", "Jasmine Flower", and "Fragrance of Rice", drawing a captivated crowd.
"It exceeded my expectations. I thought robots could only do non-technical work like moving goods, but now the flexibility of their fingers has surpassed my imagination," said one visitor.
The humanoid robots rely on high-precision motion control and multi-machine coordination, showcasing the beauty of technology through precision and discipline.
"This is my first time collaborating with a robot as an accompanist. The whole experience was very novel. Because the robot's accompaniment is extremely consistent every time, I mainly needed to focus on my own part and coordinate with it, which ensured the quality of the performance," said violinist Yan Di, who performed alongside the humanoid robots.
During the Canton Fair, many overseas buyers have visited the Canton Tower. Romanian businessman Ciprian Nica, who was there with his family, was drawn to the futuristic concert.
"I like the combination because you mixed robots and real people. So you cannot really see the difference, feel the difference, I mean, in the sound. Guangzhou is a really modern city, we like it very much, we are impressed with everything,” said Nica.
The Future Concert at Canton Tower will run until May 25, with five performances scheduled each day. Through regular, high-quality cultural technology performances, Canton Tower aims to showcase Guangzhou's innovative spirit in the integrated development of culture, technology, and tourism.
