Footage of an adorable, fluffy panda cub eating bamboo shoots while enjoying attention from his keeper was released by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda (CCRCGP) on Oct 23.
Qiao Sen, dubbed by online fans as Qiao Baobao, is the elder of twin brothers born at the Wolong Shenshuping Panda Base in southwest China's Sichuan Province in September 2019. The younger brother is Qiao Lin, who is nicknamed Qiao Doudou.
Qiao Sen has a unique heart-shaped nose that easily distinguishes him from his brother.
The second characters of the twins' names, when put together phonically, become "Sen Lin", the Chinese word for "forest".
According to a panda fan on Weibo, the nicknames Qiao Baobao and Qiao Doudou were based on the first impression they made on their public debut.
The fan said Qiao Baobao looked like a piece of toasted bread, or "bao" in Chinese, while Qiao Doudou first appeared with a panda keeper’s white glove holding the youngster looking like a bib, or "dou".
The CCRCGP is a world-leading institution for the preservation and reproduction of the panda population and the reintroduction of the endangered animals into the wild.
At present, the institution has cooperated with 18 zoos in 16 countries and regions and 39 animal breeding institutions and more than 10 scientific research institutes in China.
