Cycling is gaining growing popularity among young people across China with motivation by professional and novel cycling equipment used to improve cyclists' experience and better enjoy a sightseeing.
Data from some online sales platforms showed that since March, the turnover of cycling wear has increased by 160 percent year on year, and that of bicycles for teenagers has grown by 260 percent year on year.
In Kunming City, south China's Yunnan Province, many young people preferred to join a cycling tour around Dianchi Lake during the just-finished three-day Tomb Sweeping Day holiday from Thursday to Saturday.
Wearing quick drying clothing , safety helmets, goggles and locking shoes, cyclists are able to finish the 100 plus-km tour within three to four hours.
Meanwhile, cycling routes are not limited to the surrounding areas of cities, as the tour model featuring vehicles plus bicycles is becoming popular.
The rise of folding bicycles has also allowed more people to join the lightweight cycling. Upgrading the transmission system and braking system can also greatly improve the performance of bicycles.
Many cycling enthusiasts even design their own riding clothes and buy different colored gear for their bikes, a way to show their personalities on the road.
"The two in-house mechanics have to assemble five to six bicycles a day at most," said Zhao Chao, owner of a folding bicycle store.
As outdoor sports gradually evolve into a lifestyle of Chinese people, especially the younger generation, the industry is poised for further growth in the years to come.
