The construction of the high-profile Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay No. 2 Tunnel Project is in full swing. The project is included among the 2024 key implementation-type projects in Shandong Province, the first “1” project in the “15515+N” municipal road engineering project specified in the Qingdao 14th Five-Year Plan and an important component of the “seven horizontals and nine verticals” express road network in the central urban area.
Given extremely complicated geological conditions, exceptionally susceptible construction environment, high demanding construction quality and hostile service environment, the subsea highway tunnel project is expected to chalk up five world records after completion: outperforming Japan’s Seikan Tunnel (5.2 million cubic meters) and the English-France Channel Tunnel (4.8 million cubic meters) to boasts the largest construction scale with more than 6 million cubic meters in the volume of earth excavation; overtaking the well-paved Norway's Ryfylke Tunnel to become the world’s longest subsea highway tunnel (14.3km); boasting the longest fracture surface to pass through the active fault among worldwide subsea tunnels; enjoying the highest hydraulic pressure among extra large diameter shield tunnels in the world; and the world’s first subsea tunnel featuring ultra long diameter shield tunneling and large section borehole-blasting method.
