Chinese people are eagerly preparing to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival which falls on June 10 this year, honoring culinary traditions and cultural practices.
In Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province, a wide variety of zongzi, the iconic pyramid-shaped rice dumplings, are highly sought after in local markets. Zongzi, made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, is a must-try delicacy during the festival.
Vendors selling Buyi ethnic zongzi, dressed in traditional attire, invite customers to taste their products.
"Our Buyi ethnic specialties include grey zongzi, as well as colorful rice zongzi dyed with natural plants. We also have plain zongzi and alkaline zongzi, which are all delicious," said Wu, a zongzi seller.
Traditional Chinese wormwood products are also much sought after in the market ahead of the festival. The wormwood is hung at doorways to ward off illness and bless the family with peace, health, and well-being.
A factory in Xinyi City, east China's Jiangsu Province, has been busy filling orders, with workers crafting wormwood flower wreaths and packing them in boxes for shipment.
"The flower wreaths are made from wormwood leaves, smilax glabra, and Billy Button, symbolizing happiness and fulfillment. We launched it at the end of April, and our daily shipments have exceeded 4,000 orders," said Ju Chuanchang, a manager of the factory.
The factory is also preparing wormwood sticks and traditional Chinese moxibustion patches to be shipped nationwide.
