A new Guinness World Record was made on Saturday as a dragon boat measuring a total length of 100.987 meters in Yiyang City of central China's Hunan Province was officially recognized as the world's "longest dragon boat."
The double-oared dragon boat, crafted by the residents of Beian New Village, boasts a remarkable total of 105 compartments and can accommodate up to 420 rowers.
"This dragon boat measures 100.987 meters in length, surpassing the current record and successfully achieving the challenge," said Xiong Wen, an official from the Guinness World Record.
Crafted with utmost precision by skilled local shipbuilders, the dragon boat is made of Chinese fir logs, each with a diameter ranging from 50 to 60 centimeters and a length of approximately 28 meters.
It involved eight meticulous steps and took the shipbuilders more than two months to complete. Finally, the dragon boat was ceremoniously launched onto the river on June 12, 2023.
