GUANGZHOU -- Cub rooms at a zoo in south China's Guangzhou became home to adorable monkey sisters and a playful lion cub on Sunday, attracting eager young visitors.
In the animal kindergarten, the main classroom now belongs to a pair of black spider monkey sisters, "Xiao Kui" and "Xiao Xia." Unable to be raised by their mothers for some time, the sisters are thriving under the care of zookeepers. Their bright eyes and smooth fur make them irresistible stars of the kindergarten.
"They are black, and their tails are long, which keeps them in balance," said a visiting child.
Smiling in agreement, zookeeper Liang Huiqi confirmed the girl's observation.
"That's true. Their tails can also be their third hands. Because their tails are long, monkeys can hang themselves from trees in the wild," said Liang.
Parents of the visiting children watched in delight as their youngsters were captivated by the playful antics of the cubs.
"She rarely sees animals, there are more animals here, so I brought her here to see them. She has seen capybaras in Changsha, but they were adults, and she hasn't seen the cubs yet," said Ms. Zeng, a tourist from Hunan.
"She asks if tigers and lions bite, she still prefers smaller animals," said Mr. Gao, a tourist in Guangzhou.
Meanwhile, the outdoor area of the cub rooms welcomed the newcomer "Garfield", an African lion cub. Already showing his strength, Garfield explores his new surroundings with playful curiosity.
Zookeeper Tan Xueya said,"Garfield" has grown milk teeth and can chomp bones and flesh, but he still loves his playtime with the keeper.
"If you feed it often, even if you have no food with you, it will follow you and play with you. It even limits its strength when it plays with us," said Tan.
