Many wild animals spotted in Jilin 发布日期:2025/2/12 来源: 打印

Many wild animals including sika deer, tigers, leopards were spotted in a national park in Hunchun City, northeast China's Jilin Province.

Laoye Mountain, a branch of the Changbai Mountain, has the highest population density of tigers and leopards in northeast China. While patrolling the area during winter, wildlife rangers can often encounter a herd of sika deers running through the forest.

The wildlife rangers' task during the recent patrol was to retrieve an infrared camera in a valley of the Laoye Mountain. According to the rangers, the camera is placed at a site with the highest "appearance rate" of tigers and leopards. It has captured valuable images of Siberian tigers, leopards, black bears, sika deer, and other wildlife, while also recording the food chain dynamics among these species.

"There are some furs of a sika deer in the middle part of that tree, which means that the sika deer was pulled up the tree by a leopard, with its furs rubbed off on the tree," said Du Jiaxing, a ranger.

Du said leopards are frequently spotted in the region.

"Leopards appear here regularly, while bears have only been seen once," he said.
